Stability Studies Simulator
The results of the studies carried out by the University of Bath
into caravan stability has confirmed that concentrating weight
near the centre of gravity, and thus reducing the Yaw inertia,
is a vital factor in optimising stability.
In order to provide a graphic illustration of how different loading
patterns in a caravan can greatly affect stability, students have
produced a scale model simulator.
By adjusting the weight distribution on the trailer, the simulator
demonstrates how the stability of the same car and the same trailer
carrying the same payload at the same speeds can be significantly
altered.
The following video presentation shows Dr Jos Darling of the
University of Bath demonstrating a loading experiment on the simulator
to members of the public at the International Caravan and Motorhome
Show in October 2007.
This simulator will be on display on the Bailey stand at major
exhibitions throughout the year.
